About Us

Zo Computer is built by Substrate Labs Inc. – founded in 2023 by Rob and Ben, who met in 2013 and have been friends ever since. Our mission from the start has been to build the ideal environment for collaborating with intelligent machines.

Our first product was a computing environment for developers building agentic AI systems. But we realized we could aim higher – so we're building the ideal environment for working with AI: a user-friendly personal server.

Substrate Labs is backed by Lightspeed and investors including South Park Commons, Craft, Guillermo Rauch, Shreyas Doshi, Immad Akhund, and Will Gaybrick.

Rob Cheung (Co-Founder, CEO) was the founding engineer at Fin, a 2015 AI agent integrated with a human-in-the-loop workforce. After Fin pivoted away from AI, he became the founding engineer at Substack.

Ben Guo (Co-Founder, President) joined Stripe in 2015 and obsessed over the design of Stripe's APIs and SDKs for over 8 years. He was the founding engineer on Stripe Terminal, bringing Stripe to the physical world.
