How to Make Rules

Rules let you set persistent preferences that Zo follows across every conversation. Want Zo to always be concise? Always confirm before sending emails? Just make a rule.

Quick Start

Paste in chat:

Prompt

From now on, always respond in bullet points and keep answers under 200 words unless I ask for more detail.

Zo creates the rule automatically. It's active immediately.

Or create one manually

Step 1: Open Settings

Go to Settings > AI > Rules to see all your active rules.

Step 2: Click "Add Rule"

Create a new rule and write a clear instruction. Good rules are specific and direct:

  • "Always respond in bullet points for summaries"
  • "When writing emails, use a formal tone and keep them under 150 words"
  • "Be better at emails" (too vague)

Step 3: Add a condition (optional)

Scope the rule so it only applies in certain contexts:

  • "When writing code" → enforce your style preferences
  • "When drafting social media posts" → use a specific brand voice
  • No condition = the rule always applies

Step 4: Save the rule

Save it and the rule takes effect immediately. Zo will follow it across chat, SMS, email, and Telegram.

Step 5: Manage over time

Review your rules in Settings > AI > Rules. Edit, disable, or delete rules that are no longer useful:

Prompt

Update my bullet points rule to allow longer responses when I ask for explanations

Use Cases

  • Set a default writing tone (formal, casual, concise)
  • Always get confirmation before Zo sends emails
  • Enforce specific code style preferences
  • Set language preferences for responses
  • Require Zo to ask before making file changes
